“My everyday (foolproof) outfit formula”

Hey all!  I’m back with a new outfit post!  I’ve suffered from really bad migraines lately, so it’s been a little difficult to write new content.  I’m pleased to say that I’m feeling okay today and hoping not to relapse.  Migraines are no fun!

On a lighter note, it’s Father’s day today!  Many of you are probably going out to brunch this morning and could use an outfit inspiration.  I love a simple and casual “brunch” outfit without looking overdone.  I have an outfit formula that (and I swear by this) is easy and efficient.

Here is the foolproof equation:

  • One basic – Basics to me are closet staples: plain tees, jeans or a skirt, slip dresses etc.  In this outfit, the slip dress is the basic piece.
  • One interest/statement piece – Anything that has color, textures or patterns.  The slip dress also falls in this category because of the metallic, shimmery material.
  • One completer – This could be a jacket or sweater.  My jean jacket and I go hand in hand per usual and instead of wearing it, I tied it around my waist for added depth.  Since it’s warm now (hello summer!), you could do a statement accessory like a scarf, hat, belt.
  • Accessories – These are pieces that you don’t normally leave the house without.  I”m talking, purses, jewelry, shoes and sunglasses.  My backpack and shoes anchor the outfit and of course, sunglasses.  If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you know that no My Style and Grace outfit isn’t complete without my sunnies!

I hope you will use this formula to create outfits that are fun and interesting!  If you do, please feel free to share and tag me!  Happy Sunday ❤

“#CoachSpring2016 Campaign”

Hey guys!  I feel like it’s been a while since my last blog post.  I’ve been on duty and on the go lately so it’s been a challenge trying to keep up!  I’m finally blogging about my Instagram project/collaboration with Coach for their #CoachSpring2016 campaign.  I am honored (and thrilled!) to be a part of such a fun project!  I spent the day in San Francisco with the help of my sister, Gladys (photographer extraordinaire) and much-needed assistance from my good friend, Andrea.  This shoot wouldn’t have been possible without you two, so thank you!

We shot two looks throughout the city featuring The Coach Swagger 20 mini bag and the C101 Low Top Sneaker.  Hope you guys like it!

Look #1:

Let me tell you about the cutest little bag: The Coach Swagger 20.  This pretty little thing matches my petite frame, but still makes room for my daily essentials.  It also comes with a strap if you’re a hands-free type of gal.  Perfect for roaming around in the city when you’re always on the go like me!

Look #2:

The white sneaker is the most coveted pair of shoes that are in every fashionista’s closet lately.  They’re cute, comfortable, and will go with just about everything.  The pink stitching on my Coach C101 Low Tops brings a nice feminine touch!  What’s not to love about these?  Heart emojis all the way!

Hope you guys liked my long and overdue post!  I apologize that it took so long to share!  I also wanted to take the time to thank you all for your continuous support of my blog!  I reached 10.5 K followers on my Instagram page recently and I am beyond grateful for each and single one of you!  My appreciation is boundless. ❤

“Olive you so much.”

There’s one color that I can’t get enough of:  Olive green.  This shade looks good on everybody and looks good in pretty much everything.  Instead of the popular olive bomber jacket we’ve seen everywhere, I opted for something lightweight to tackle Spring temperatures and can be used in the Summer as well:  an olive-green chambray button down.  I’ve gone through a few of these over the years and have worn them over maxi dresses, denim, shorts…you name it.  All you have to do is throw it on to anchor an outfit.  I did a little pop of color with an orange cami because it goes with khaki tones so well.  Since the pieces I have on are a bit on the baggy side, I decided to wear heels for added height (balance is key, ladies!).  And as far as my accessories go, leopard and stripes go hand in hand here (yes, you can mix patterns as long as the colors match!).  Lastly, can’t have a My Style and Grace outfit without sunglasses and these mirrored lovelies are everything.  To my go to shirt this season: Olive you so much ❤

“Because pink can be edgy too.”

Oh, Pinks and blushes.  So pretty and delicate to look at.  It’s no wonder that Rose Quartz was picked as Pantone Color of the Year 2016 along with Serenity.  Yes, this color thing is an ACTUAL thing, guys.  The rose tone of my sweater looks so soft and feminine so I decided to add a little edge to it.  Want to know how to achieve this combo?  Here’s my equation: Pink + leather/camo = femme fatale.  I just love the contrast of edgy and soft for that sweet yet daring look.  Throw on some leather or even a military jacket and voila!  I love the way a good ol’ camo jacket looks against soft pinks.  I scored my camo jacket from Asos and guess what?  It’s actually a men’s jacket! Who would’ve guessed?  I love an oversized military jacket and this one goes with almost anything.  My closet would be nothing without this!

*Here’s a quick tip: don’t be afraid to browse the men’s section.  A lot of times, that’s where the goods are!  I love when its #borrowedfromtheboys *

To top it off, add some sunnies and studded boots to bring out your inner cool girl.

So guys, is it time to rethink pink? ❤

P.S. I just noticed that my purse isn’t closed in this photo.  Oops!  #nobodysperfect haha!

“Sparkling Holiday”

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays!  It’s been hectic around here, but amidst all the craziness, I am thankful that I have spent it with my loved ones and I hope that you did as well.  🙂

Now on to the next holiday – NYE.  Here’s a couple of NYE looks with a little help from my beautiful and fellow blogger, Monica from LivinginVogue.  Sparkles and sequins go hand in hand with NYE, so here we are in our party-ready ensembles!

This sequin mini skirt paired with a cozy turtleneck sweater is a perfect combination for a less than formal affair.  My love for a good ol’ denim jacket is undeniable so I decided to throw it on for a little casualness.  Yes, it is unexpected, but it works for a street-chic look which is my personal favorite.  For added interest, I wore over the knee socks with heels because I am currently obsessed with this cool combo lately!  Layer with a scarf or a beanie for extra warmth and voila!  NYE ready for those swanky parties.

It’s been a great year, but I’m ready to welcome 2016.  Who’s with me?!  Cheers to all and thank you for following along.  I appreciate you guys so much! ❤

“Hello, fall.”

Living here in California does have its perks.  Fall is in the air, but it’s not quite the time to put those summer pieces away yet.  I wanted to hang out by the beach one foggy morning and I knew that it was going to be a bit chilly.  I tried not to look like I was dressed for the polar vortex (if its 65 degrees and under, I’m freezing! haha!) so hello, chunky, oversized cardigan. 🙂  I often keep a cozy cardi in hand for those transitional weather days, especially living here in the Bay Area.

Oversized cardigans and cutoffs mesh well together, so if you want to pull out those chunkier knits at the beach, balance it out with denim cutoffs.  Shoes are optional. ❤

“Let’s hear it for the boy(s)”

This a man’s world..this is a man’s world…” Queue James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s Man’s World” because today, I am letting the guys take over.  I am starting a blog series dedicated to well-dressed gentlemen because I am the gal who likes to borrow from the boys and it doesn’t hurt to steal a little #manspiration from these fellas. ❤

I’ve known this guy for quite some time now (maybe 10 years or so?) and his style and casual attitude has always caught my eye.  Now that he’s thousands of miles away, he’s still my go-to person for fashion advice.  I applaud his simplicity and his love for solid tees and leather.  It’s no surprise that I picked him to kick off my #fashionablefellas blog series!

1. Describe your personal style.
Honestly… As people will roll their eyes from my answer, I can’t describe my style. Because the term or action of “style” is something that’s innate in a person. Meaning it’s who they are. Style is a personality. We all sleep and walk a certain way. And how we choose to express ourselves is part of that inner projection. That’s where people get extremely confused with style and fashion. Style is a characteristic. Fashion is What you see at Barneys or in a magazine spread. I basically wear the same thing everyday. It’s become my personal uniform.
2. Who are you most influenced by?  Style icons?
My grandfathers. They always made sure they were pressed when they went out. And when they were chillin. They’d have those 1 pair of jeans that they broke in for years giving it that unique true lived-in look, Along with that same white tee that you could tell had stories in its own. From sitting on the porch to gardening.
As far as style icons- I dig Julian Casablancas, Brandon Flowers, David Beckham and Kristen Crawley.
3. What’s one item in your closet that you can’t live without? Why is that?
I would have to say my black Alexander McQueen suit with the rolled shoulders.
I’m a suit guy. If I could wear a suit everyday I would. But I live in Hawaii. The suit fit me off the rack. And that’s hard to come by if you know how to wear a suit. Imma be honest… Designer or not, 80% of men wear horribly fitted suits. Get Measurements fellas.
4. Tell us what you’re wearing! (see photos)
My t-shirt is Sandro. My jeans are Balmain 2011 last of Decarnin. The waxing that Christophe does doesn’t wear down like the newer pieces. Leather Jacket is by Junya Watanabe. The painted stripe on the back is what got me. It cracked and chipped with wear. Boots by Saint Laurent. And my bracelet is Cartier. Oh. The cigarette is Nat Sherman. Hahaha.
The next stylish fella is a blogger AND model.  One of the very few male fashion bloggers that I follow on Instagram (@tom_and_toms) simply because I am a fan of his “rugged but polished” look.  Give him a utility shirt and he can make it look effortlessly cool.  I guess it’s safe to say that he is one of my favorites!

1. Describe your personal style.
My personal style is workman, I suppose. I wear generally wear denim, leather, and boots (season permitting). I like to look like a man (although I wear skinny jeans, this is because I have chicken legs lol) I do like to throw in some tailoring and Preppy looks here and there. I quite like an Oxford shirt and a denim jacket or a blazer and boots combo. I prefer to look made up but not over done and a little manly.
2. Who are you most influenced by?  Style icons?
I’m influenced by literally everything I see, whether it’s on social, print or online media. I’m inflicted by the music I like, folk, indie, old rock, 60’s, 70’s. In term of people I really like David Beckham’s personal style, as well as Alex turner. I’m a big fan of Ricki Hall, Bill Huxley and Chris John Millington, as well. I probably dress most like Chris John Millington ( minus the tattoos).
3. What’s one item in your closet that you can’t live without? Why is that?
My favourite item of clothing is a plain  white T-shirt , this can be crew neck, scoop neck or a Henley. I love wearing white and it goes with everything, especially well with a denim/leather jacket , jeans and boots. It is an item everyone should have and everyone should wear the hell out of.
4. Tell us what you’re wearing! (see photos)
In my photo, I’m pretty much wearing my normal day to day wear. T-shirt is by ASOS, denim jacket by Topman, jeans by Cheap Monday and boots by Zara.

The accessories are from ASOS, River Island , and some are just made by me.

Stay tuned for more of my #fashionablefellas posts.  Hope you guys are having a great Monday so far!

“Fringe benefits in the summer”

Hi guys!  It’s been a while since my last post and I must say that it feels good to be back! Summer’s been keeping me occupied with plans left and right and now I can finally wind down a little before the end of the month for my bestie’s bachelorette party!  Yay!  I am looking forward to this little getaway and I can’t wait to show you my little “GNO” (Girls Night Out) outfit, so please stay tuned for that!

But for now, can we talk about camel suede?  Fringe?  Camel suede AND fringe?  Could these two possibly be the best combination ever?  Ok.  Maybe not the best, but this is definitely in my top five!

I remember the first time I fell in love with fringe: Mia Sara AKA Sloane Peterson from the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off wore this white leather fringe jacket with shorts and boots.  “OH YEAH.”  I wish I looked THAT good while I playing hooky. Man, Sloane was the coolest and I wanted to be just like her!

Suede.  There’s not much I can say about suede, but the look and feel of it just screams luxurious.  I bought my first suede jacket in high school and I wore that thing loud and proud when I posed for my “Best Dressed” yearbook photo (#tbt photo upon request). I thought I was so cool and walked down the hallways like it was my runway. #truestory

Given that it is summer and the temperatures have been high, I opted for a vest instead of a jacket for this look.  Camel suede looks amazing against white so I wore this off the shoulder top underneath.  By now you should know that I love to recycle my old pieces, so I gave my old denim Levi’s maxi that I’ve had since high school a makeover and ended up with a destroyed mini.  With a few snips and a few rips here and there, I was able to turn my boring ol’ maxi into a cute mini skirt!  I wore my favorite leopard booties and some classic aviators to complete the outfit.  It was a treat shooting this look because fringe sways while you walk and I love that added drama!  Talk about fringe benefits! ❤

“DIY denim vest”

I know that there are some old items in your closet hanging lonely in the dark, but can be an inspiration for something new.  I had an old denim jacket from high school that I just can’t seem to toss.  I’ve always wanted a denim vest, but can’t seem to find the perfect one yet (picky shopper here) so I thought to myself “hmm, what if I..?” Then, the easiest DIY happened in a matter of minutes and I scored myself a denim vest! Winning!

Who doesn’t love a super easy DIY project?  Easy as in all you need is a pair of scissors to make this happen.  Say what?!  Oh and that old jean jacket of yours collecting dust in your closet.  Don’t own a pair? You can even find one at your local thrift store.  Now that’s a great way of picking one up without shelling out the cash!

Ready for this?  It gets easier.  Start cutting the sleeves off as close to the sleeve seam as possible.  Clean up the edges.  Done.  No hemming or sewing needed.  Oh my goodness, was that easy or what?  Now you’ve got yourself a denim vest!  I love denim vests because you can basically throw them over anything.  It’s my summer staple at the moment!  Here I’m showing a little bit of skin, so I made my crop top daytime appropriate by wearing it with a high-waisted skirt.  I layered it with my denim vest that I made (yay!) to balance it out.  I added printed sandals and a clutch both in neutral colors to keep it simple.  And lastly, sunglasses because you all know this girl and her sunnies are an inseparable bond. ❤

“Yes to matchy-matchy!”

Own a pair of co-ordinating sets?  Let’s face it, you really can’t get a cuter combo than a matching set.  My favorite thing about owning co-ords is the versatility.  It is a great way to do separates and show different styling options.  For some people, this “matchy-matchy” style may seem a bit much, but you can break up this bold look by showing a little bit of skin.  Crop tops paired with a high waisted bottom make a gorgeously cohesive and chic look!

I am crushin’ hard on Feature Clothing‘s co-ords set!  Two pieces aren’t just for the beach anymore, and this luxe matching set is on my must-haves list this season!  The simplicity of the white is so fresh and I love the diagonal layout of the stripes on the skirt (flattering, ladies!).  You can create multiple looks with this combo by wearing a different top with the skirt and vice versa.  I wanted to show off the two pieces together, so I just added a jean jacket over the crop top for a little attitude and red pumps for a pop of color and glam!  For accessories, I did gold accents and these fabulous sunnies by Valley Eyewear which by the way are SO FAB, don’t even get me started!

Get co-ordinating ladies because matchy-matchy is just so cool. ❤
